Macbeth has remained one of William Shakespeare's most intense and often performed plays. The play follows the progress of the title character as he becomes increasingly powerful, using any means.
The final conflict seen in Macbeth is man vs nature. This conflict is not as well shown as the others but is still present. For example, when Macbeth commits his first unjustifiable murder of King Duncan, the land rebels. Huge storms arise, the grey clouds come out, and the animals even start eating each other.
Examples of internal conflicts can be see through the guilt that tormented him because he recently killed Duncan. Also through the prophecies that the witches told him and the constant doubts that happen within the mind of Macbeth; if he wishes to see those prophecies fulfilled. Initially, the first conflict that is recognized is the internal.
Guilt is displayed a number of times through the internal conflict of Macbeth. Macbeth has to make many decisions throughout the play that revolve around his guilty conscience. Macbeth’s conflict in the beginning of the play is whether or not he should kill his kinsmen. He shows a guilty feeling before and after the crime is committed.
The conflict escalates as Macbeth has Macduff's family killed while Macduff is England trying to gather forces to depose Macbeth. It then culminates in a one-on-one battle between Macduff and Macbeth, which Macduff ultimately wins.
