The American Indian Graduate Center is a philanthropic organization dedicated to helping Native American achieve their educational goals. 1500 grants and scholarships are awarded annually to qualifying Native American and Native Alaskan students.

Today, nearly 7,000 American Indian and Alaska Native students have received scholarship awards and many have committed to serving their health profession careers at IHS; some have even returned to serve their own Tribal communities. Additionally, the student must have the required percentage or fraction of Native American blood, also known as a “blood quantum.” Typically, this percentage or degree is one fourth. This means at least one of the student’s grandparents must be a full-blooded Native American Indian or Alaska Native.
This program provides academic year-long scholarships (two semesters) and is administered by the American Indian College Fund. Students must be enrolled full-time and have a minimum 2.0 GPA. There are also graduate scholarships available through the Full Circle scholarship program.
Blood quantum laws or Indian blood laws are laws in the United States and the former Thirteen colonies that define Native American identity by percentages of ancestry. These laws were enacted by the American government as a way to establish legally defined racial population groups; by contrast, many tribes and nations do not include Blood Quantum (BQ) as part of their own enrollment criteria.
