This paper presents how the recently developed Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (WEAI) (Alkire et al., 2013) can be used to assess the extent of women’s empowerment in agriculture, diagnose areas where gaps in empowerment exist, and examine the extent to which improvements in the underlying indicators in these areas can improve food security in rural Bangladesh.
